Author Guidelines

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Scope and article types. JISSE welcomes original research in natural sciences, applied sciences, mathematics, science education, and STEM education. Empirical research, experimental studies, theoretical papers, systematic or narrative reviews, classroom-based research, and interdisciplinary studies are considered. Authors should explain the contribution to the journal’s scope.

Submission. Submit an original manuscript that is not published or under consideration elsewhere. The corresponding author must confirm that all authors approved the submission and that any necessary permissions for reproduced material have been obtained. Upload an editable manuscript file through OJS. Remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and identifying file metadata from the review manuscript; provide author details separately in the submission metadata.

Manuscript preparation. Write in clear English. Include a concise title, an abstract of approximately 150–250 words, and 3–5 keywords. Organize research articles with an introduction, relevant literature or theoretical framework, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgements (if any), funding, conflicts of interest, data availability, and references, as applicable. Theoretical and review papers may use a structure suited to their design. Define abbreviations, use SI units where relevant, number tables and figures, and cite each table and figure in the text. Report methods and analyses with enough detail to support evaluation and replication.

Research integrity. Describe ethics approval and informed consent when research involves human participants, including students or teachers. Explain any exemptions. Report funding, competing interests, and material use of generative AI tools; authors remain responsible for the accuracy and originality of all content. Do not list an AI tool as an author. For reviews, state the search and selection procedures; for quantitative studies, report sample, measures, analysis, and uncertainty; for qualitative studies, explain sampling, data collection, analysis, and trustworthiness.

References. Use a consistent author–date citation style, preferably APA 7th edition, and include a DOI or persistent URL when available. Ensure every in-text citation has a matching reference and vice versa.

Editorial process. Manuscripts are screened for fit, completeness, and ethics before peer review. Authors may be asked to revise and should upload a response explaining how each reviewer comment was addressed. Editorial decisions depend on scholarly quality, methodological soundness, relevance, and ethical compliance.

Fees. JISSE does not charge an article processing charge (APC) for publication.
